The Lord has certainly been revealing himself to the people of Japan. This summer alone our IMB team has seen 16 salvations! Three of those I personally was able to be apart of.
My friend A is a new believer as of 2 nights ago! We had been studying the bible together for a few weeks, and then she said that she wants to believe! It is so amazing to see someone become a new creation right in front of your eyes.
Many people have asked so.. here you go...cultural differences..The roads here are so tiny you get honked at even if you are smashed against the building wall. i hate getting honked at, but what's worse is when you get the little bell ring on the bikes- yea like ones from when you were five all except everyone uses them here.. and they don't say excuse me they just ring that little bell and expect you to move to the right side of the road which of course is not the right but the left. They recycle everything here, you cant just throw your plate away, you recycle everything into its special container. All the girls wear heels, even if they are jogging and they walk pigeon toed.it is not considered beautiful to be tan, so all the girls use an umbrella everywhere and sometimes wear long gloves. Some grandmas dye their hair purple in order to celebrate being single again and the freedom that comes with it. There is advertising everywhere, and the advertisers are always trying to get you to take the little fan, or tissues, or mineral water (aka.. tastes like metal water) with their little logos on it..and of course they are explaining it all in Japanese on a little megaphone in your ear. No one says hi when you walk down the street, except the sweet old man working in his restaurant who always wipes down this little board on a table top thing. oh and it's perfectly normal to fall asleep on the person next to you on the subway, the Japanese of course wake up embarrased when they realize this. There are no free drink refills- and when you ask for water at say a wendys, you get a dixie cup that was meant for toddlers- but customer service here is amazing- they are always happy to see you. And if you are lost just stand for one minute looking like you are and someone will surely help you, they will typically even escort you to your destination.I'll think of more later.. it's all about cultural shock and this is just the beginning! And in spite of all this .. I still have an unconditional love for the beautiful Japanese people, even the ones that honk at me.
